National Park
11 wild Pokémon across 1 encounter method. 4 trainer battles.
National Park Guide
National Park is Johto's calm central green space, doubling as both a regular route detour and the Bug-Catching Contest venue.
Getting in
Reach the park through Route 35 or Route 36 when you want a softer change of pace between badge pushes. It is one of the easiest places to treat like a real destination instead of a pass-through map.
Main reason to visit
The park matters because it carries the Bug-Catching Contest, gives central Johto a different tone, and breaks up the Goldenrod-to-Ecruteak line beautifully. It is useful even when no event is running.
Why return
Return for the contest, for central-Johto catches, or simply because the park is one of the better midgame loops to revisit between larger jobs.

Bug-Catching Contest Rules
Use these basics before you enter the contest.

The Bug-Catching Contest runs on Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday.
Visit either National Park gate on those days if you want to enter.
Time and Park Balls
You get 20 minutes and 20 Park Balls for one contest run.
Catch the best bug you can before time or Park Balls run out.
Contest grass
Regular grass has a lower encounter rate than the taller contest grass.
Use the taller grass when you want more chances quickly.
Judging score
Judging rewards a stronger caught Pokémon, good DVs, more remaining HP, and a held item.
Try to catch a strong bug without weakening it too much.
Prizes
Your placing decides which prize you receive.
Aim for first place if you want the rarest reward.
