Route 33 Guide

Route 33 is a short but important cliffside connector that spits you out of Union Cave and into Azalea territory.

Travel the route

Travel this route right after Union Cave 1F if you are moving toward Azalea Town. It is brief, but it marks the handoff from the first cave trip into the Slowpoke story beat.

What matters here

What matters here is the pacing, not the length. The route gives you a breath after the cave and lines up the last few steps into Azalea without another maze layered on top.

Come back later

Come back when you are retracing the cave route or want the quickest connection between Violet-side caves and Azalea.

Location Rules

Things To Know Before You Explore

Use these as quick checks before you talk to people, claim gifts, or try a blocked path.

A rematch can unlock later

A later version of this battle can open up after more story progress.

Check back later after more story events, and share your number if asked.

Phone number choice matters

Later calls or follow-up events only happen if you shared your number.

Say yes when asked if you want rematches or other follow-ups.

Finish the Radio Tower story

This changes after the Radio Tower trouble is over.

Finish that storyline, then check here again.

Visit Olivine first

Olivine only becomes a Fly stop after you have been there once.

Reach Olivine first so Fly can treat it as a destination.

Roaming Pokémon

The legendary beasts can pass through this route after the Burned Tower basement event.

Possible roamers

Raikou, Entei, Suicune can move through this route once they are released.

Check your Pokégear map, then hunt on land when one is nearby.

Route changes

A roaming beast can move to a nearby route when you change areas, and it can also jump somewhere else.

If it is not here anymore, step between nearby routes and check again.

Nearby jumps

From here, a beast usually moves toward Route 32, Route 34.

Use nearby routes to keep chasing without flying away.

Land only

The beasts stay out of Surf encounters, so they do not pop up while you are surfing.

Hunt in grass or on land instead of riding across water.

Map Movement Tips

These clues come from the map tiles, so they are handy when you are planning which moves or paths matter here.

One-way ledges shape the route

These ledges let you jump down but not climb back up from the same spot.

Look before you hop if you are collecting items or avoiding trainers.
