Route 31
15 wild Pokémon across 4 encounter methods. 1 trainer battle.
Route 31 Guide
Route 31 is the last northern starter route before Violet, with a cave entrance, more grass, and the gate into the first badge town.
Travel the route
This road links Route 30 and Violet City. It feels like the final warm-up before the map opens into Gym and tower tasks.
What matters here
The big landmarks are the Dark Cave Violet Entrance side path and the short gate run into Violet. It is also where the northern starter stretch starts handing over to real city progression.
Come back later
Come back when you want the cave entrance, more early catches, or a clean run into Violet without taking the longer southern loop.

Check your Pokégear map, then hunt on land when one is nearby.

If it is not here anymore, step between nearby routes and check again.
Nearby jumps
From here, a beast usually moves toward Route 30, Route 32, Route 36.
Use nearby routes to keep chasing without flying away.
Land only
The beasts stay out of Surf encounters, so they do not pop up while you are surfing.

Map Movement Tips
These clues come from the map tiles, so they are handy when you are planning which moves or paths matter here.
Cut can open a blocker here
Some small trees or grass blockers can be cleared with Cut.
Bring a Pokémon that knows Cut after earning Hive Badge.
Surf opens water paths here
Water tiles can become paths once you can Surf.
Bring a Surf user after earning Fog Badge if you want every shoreline path.
One-way ledges shape the route
These ledges let you jump down but not climb back up from the same spot.
Look before you hop if you are collecting items or avoiding trainers.
