Route 46
8 wild Pokémon across 3 encounter methods. 5 trainer battles.
Route 46 Guide
Route 46 is the vertical side route that quietly ties the starter roads to Blackthorn's cliff country.
Travel the route
This route links Route 29 and Route 45 in a way that feels much bigger later than it does at the start. Early on it is just a side climb; later it becomes part of the Blackthorn back-route network.
What matters here
The route matters because it teaches you to remember small forks that grow into useful travel lines later. It is also the neatest example of Johto's map folding early and late game into the same space.
Come back later
Come back after Blackthorn opens if you want the full cliff-route loop instead of treating Route 46 as a starter-area curiosity.

Later calls or follow-up events only happen if you shared your number.

Roaming Pokémon
The legendary beasts can pass through this route after the Burned Tower basement event.
Possible roamers
Raikou, Entei can move through this route once they are released.
Check your Pokégear map, then hunt on land when one is nearby.
Route changes
A roaming beast can move to a nearby route when you change areas, and it can also jump somewhere else.
If it is not here anymore, step between nearby routes and check again.
Nearby jumps
From here, a beast usually moves toward Route 45, Route 29.
Use nearby routes to keep chasing without flying away.
Land only
The beasts stay out of Surf encounters, so they do not pop up while you are surfing.
Hunt in grass or on land instead of riding across water.
Map Movement Tips
These clues come from the map tiles, so they are handy when you are planning which moves or paths matter here.
One-way ledges shape the route
These ledges let you jump down but not climb back up from the same spot.
Look before you hop if you are collecting items or avoiding trainers.
Battle Variants
PICNICKER ERIN rematches
