Route 2 Guide

Route 2 is the western north-south Kanto road, wrapping Viridian, Pewter, and Diglett's Cave into one travel line.

Travel the route

Travel Route 2 when you want the clearest western Kanto connector between Viridian City and Pewter City. It is more about movement and side access than about one big event.

What matters here

The important thing here is how many places it supports at once: the city pair, the cave shortcut, and the forest-edge feel of northwestern Kanto. It is a workhorse route, not a spectacle route.

Come back later

Return when you need the western Kanto spine or want a cleaner Diglett's Cave approach than the Vermilion side gives you.

Map Movement Tips

These clues come from the map tiles, so they are handy when you are planning which moves or paths matter here.

Cut can open a blocker here

Some small trees or grass blockers can be cleared with Cut.

Bring a Pokémon that knows Cut after earning Hive Badge.

One-way ledges shape the route

These ledges let you jump down but not climb back up from the same spot.

Look before you hop if you are collecting items or avoiding trainers.

Repel Planning

If your lead Pokémon is above a wild level, Repel skips it. These checkpoints show what disappears completely.
