Battle Tower Outside
Battle Tower Outside Guide
Battle Tower Outside is Crystal's big coastal challenge landmark: a huge tower off Route 40 where NPCs talk about three-Pokemon teams, long winning streaks, and the urge to conquer every room.
Stand under the tower
The Battle Tower does not feel like another route stop. You approach it from Route 40, step through the gate, and suddenly the map opens around a huge building with people staring up at it. One sign sells the whole mood: take the ultimate Trainer challenge.
Talk to the people outside before going in. The Youngster is amazed by how many kinds of Pokemon must be inside, the Beauty is already agonizing over which three Pokemon to bring, and the Sailor has snuck away from work because he refuses to quit until he wins.
What to do outside
- Use the south exits to return toward Route 40 Battle Tower Gate.
- Use the north doors to enter Battle Tower 1F.
- Read the outside sign for the challenge framing, then talk to each NPC for practical hints about the facility.
There are no outdoor items or trainer battles here. The outside map is the staging area, not the reward room.
Prepare for the rules
The important work starts inside. The rules sign on 1F says three Pokemon may enter, all three must be different, and their held items must be different too. The Granny inside also warns you that you cannot use items in battle, so held items matter a lot.
Build a team before you talk to the receptionist. Pick three Pokemon that cover each other's weaknesses, give each a different held item, and make sure the levels match the room you choose.
The challenge inside
The receptionist leads you to a Battle Room after saving. Each room has seven trainers. Beat them all and you win a prize; the script gives you five of the chosen reward item if your Bag has space. If you leave a session without saving properly, the challenge is declared invalid.
This is not a story dungeon with pickups on the floor. It is a repeat battle destination, so the thing to explore is your own team plan: which three Pokemon can keep winning when Bag items are off the table?
Come back later
Return whenever you want a cleaner test than wild routes or Gyms can give you. The tower is Crystal-only, repeatable, and built for experimenting with compact teams, held items, and streak pressure.
Entry point
Reach the tower from Route 40, then enter Battle Tower 1F through the north doors.
Core rule
Bring three different Pokemon with three different held items.
Reward
Beat seven trainers in a Battle Room to win five of the selected prize item.
