Viridian City Guide

Viridian City is Kanto's western junction, linking Pallet, Pewter, Route 22, Diglett's Cave access, and the last Gym.

Get your bearings

Viridian is less about one flashy building and more about how much of Kanto runs through it. It is the first real city above Pallet Town and the clean crossroads for the western routes once the postgame opens.

Main jobs here

Your main jobs are using it as the hub for Route 1, Route 2, and Route 22, then coming back once the Gym can finally be cleared. The Trainer House also makes it more than a simple pass-through stop.

Good revisits

Return when you want western Kanto travel, the last Gym, or the fastest way to swing between Pallet, Pewter, and the Indigo side of the map.

Map Movement Tips

These clues come from the map tiles, so they are handy when you are planning which moves or paths matter here.

Cut can open a blocker here

Some small trees or grass blockers can be cleared with Cut.

Bring a Pokémon that knows Cut after earning Hive Badge.

Surf opens water paths here

Water tiles can become paths once you can Surf.

Bring a Surf user after earning Fog Badge if you want every shoreline path.

One-way ledges shape the route

These ledges let you jump down but not climb back up from the same spot.

Look before you hop if you are collecting items or avoiding trainers.

Repel Planning

If your lead Pokémon is above a wild level, Repel skips it. These checkpoints show what disappears completely.
