Sprout Tower 1F Guide

Sprout Tower begins as a quiet Violet City shrine with Pokemon statues, a shaking center pillar, sages on guard, and the promise of an HM waiting at the top.

Step inside the old tower

Sprout Tower is the place that makes Violet City feel older than its first Gym. The first floor has two dignified Pokemon statues, sages talking about gratitude and training, and a center pillar said to have grown from a Bellsprout over 100 feet tall. A teacher even points out that the pillar is shaking because people are training above you.

It is a small first floor, but it sets the mood beautifully: quiet, wooden, and just serious enough to make the climb feel like a rite of passage.

Explore the first floor

  • Enter from Violet City and talk to the sages and visitors before climbing.
  • Battle Sage Chow near the northwest side. He uses three level 3 Bellsprout.
  • Pick up the PARLYZ HEAL item ball on the east side.
  • Use the stairways to continue to Sprout Tower 2F and 3F.

The climb above you

The first floor points you toward the real goal: reach the top and earn an HM. The upper floors add more Sage battles, an X DEFEND, an ESCAPE ROPE, a Potion, and the Elder reward, HM05. If you want Flash for dark places later, do not treat this as just flavor.

Wild encounters begin upstairs. During morning and day, the tower has low-rate Rattata encounters. At night, Gastly appears, which gives the tower a very different reason to revisit after dark.

Battles to expect

Sprout Tower is an early endurance check more than a maze. Most Sages lean on Bellsprout, so Fire, Flying, Bug, and Poison help, while Water and Rock starters need a little more care. Sage Chow is the only trainer on 1F, but the tower keeps stacking similar monk battles as you climb.

If you are heading for Falkner, this is a good place to train before the Gym. If your team is weak to Bellsprout's Grass moves, bring healing or leave to recover in Violet.

Come back later

Come back at night if you want Gastly, or return before pushing south from Violet if you skipped the HM reward. The tower is optional in feel, but the prize at the top and the early training make it one of Johto's best first detours.

1F pickup

Grab the Parlyz Heal on the east side.

First battle

Sage Chow has three level 3 Bellsprout.

Main goal

Climb to the top for HM05 and return at night if you want Gastly upstairs.
