This route links Pallet Town and Viridian City in the cleanest possible way. There is no gimmick here beyond grass, trainers, and the sense that Kanto can still be simple at its southern edge.

What matters is its efficiency. Route 1 is the fastest way to turn Pallet into a usable postgame base instead of a distant hometown on the map edge.
